01 — OVERVIEW
Malaysia is one of the easier places in Asia for a Sri Lankan student to begin. Teaching is in English, the cost of living is closer to home than Europe, and the campuses sit in and around Kuala Lumpur, a few hours away by air.
What makes it useful is not the destination on its own. It is what comes after. A large part of INTI’s degree catalogue is designed from the first semester to transfer into a named partner university abroad, so the onward move is part of the programme rather than a hope.
That suits two kinds of student. The one who is not yet ready to apply directly to a university in Europe or the United Kingdom, and the one who would rather spend the first year or two closer to home before moving further away.
It also asks for clear eyes. Malaysia’s rules on working during study are tighter than any European country on this site, and the twelve-month graduate stay is not open to Sri Lankan passport holders. Malaysia is where you start. It is not where you settle.
02 — THE UNIVERSITY
Founded in 1986 and granted university status in 2010, INTI teaches across four campuses — Nilai, Subang, Penang and Kota Kinabalu — and has been part of Hope Education Group since 2020. Degrees are taught in English.

03 — WHERE IT LEADS
These are INTI’s own agreements with named universities. The onward step is written into the programme.
| Destination | Partner universities | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | University of Hertfordshire, Sheffield Hallam University, Coventry University | Dual awards and 3+0 degrees taught in Malaysia |
| United Kingdom — law | University of Sheffield, University of Liverpool Law School, University of Leeds | UK Degree Transfer Programme in law |
| United States | Southern New Hampshire University | 4+0 degrees and credit transfer |
| Australia | Swinburne University of Technology | 3+0 degrees in business, computing and media |
| France | CY Cergy Paris Université | Honours degree in food service management with culinary arts |
INTI also states credit-transfer arrangements with partners in Canada and New Zealand.
04 — AND ON TO EUROPE
INTI’s own transfer agreements lead to the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia. There is one continental European agreement, for culinary arts, with CY Cergy Paris Université.
If continental Europe is where you want to finish, that move is one we arrange, through our own partner universities. It is not an INTI transfer agreement and we will not pretend otherwise.
Which is exactly why the conversation should happen before you enrol. Choose your INTI programme with European entry requirements already in mind and the second door stays open. Choose it blindly and it may close.
05 — THE RULES, PLAINLY
20
Hours a week
And only during semester breaks or holidays longer than seven days — not during term, unlike every European country on this site.
0
Months of graduate stay
Malaysia’s Graduate Pass runs for twelve months but is open to a published list of nationalities. Sri Lanka is not on it at the time of writing.
EMGS
Where the pass is applied for
Education Malaysia Global Services processes the student pass before you travel. We handle that with you.
Work approval is applied for through the university, and is limited to restaurants, kiosks, convenience stores and hotels. Rules change — we confirm the current position for every student before they commit.
06 — QUESTIONS
INTI is a Malaysian university with programmes accredited in Malaysia, and several of its degrees are awarded by its UK partners. How a given qualification is treated depends on the university you apply to next, which is why we check the onward requirements before you enrol rather than after.
Up to twenty hours a week, and only during semester breaks or holidays longer than seven days. Approval comes from the Immigration Department and is applied for through the university. Permitted work is limited to restaurants, kiosks, convenience stores and hotels.
Malaysia’s Graduate Pass gives twelve months of stay, but only to a published list of nationalities, and Sri Lanka is not on that list at the time of writing. Treat Malaysia as a starting point rather than somewhere to settle, and plan the next move early.
Applications go through Education Malaysia Global Services before you travel, and the university submits on your behalf. We prepare the documents with you and track the application.
Tuition depends on the programme and the campus. We give you a written estimate covering tuition, the student pass and living costs for your situation, rather than a headline figure that turns out not to apply to you.
Yes, and it is one of the main reasons Sri Lankan students choose this route. That step is arranged through our European partner universities, not through an INTI agreement. Talk to us before you enrol so your programme is chosen with the European entry requirements in mind.
INTI runs several intakes a year. We confirm the current dates and deadlines for your programme directly with the university before you apply.
Many students should. If your results, your English and your budget already meet a European university’s requirements, applying directly is the shorter path, and we will tell you so. Malaysia is for students who need a stronger starting point first.
That is the question worth an hour of someone’s time. Bring your results and we will tell you honestly which route is shorter for you.
