02 — Why February

Start this year, not next

You do not lose a year

If your results, English test or documents were not ready in time for September, a February start keeps you moving instead of waiting twelve months.

The same degree

You join the same programme and graduate with the same diploma as the September group.

Most visas filed in Colombo

Latvia, Finland, Malta and the Netherlands take your student permit application in Colombo. For Hungary and Greece it is filed in New Delhi, and we guide you through it.

Selected courses only

Not every programme opens in February. We check which of your courses do, so you apply where there is a real place.

03 — Questions

What students ask us

What is the February intake?
A second start date in the academic year. Most European universities admit new students in September, and some also open a semester in February, often called the spring intake. You join the same programme, just one semester later.
Which European universities have a February intake?
Through Ahasa: EKA, TSI and LBTU in Latvia; KAMK in Finland; the University of Debrecen and Budapest Metropolitan University in Hungary; the University of Malta, MCAST and Global College Malta in Malta; Metropolitan College and IST College in Greece; and UE Amsterdam and Wittenborg in the Netherlands.
Is every course available in February?
No. Each university opens a February start on selected programmes only, and the list changes from year to year. We check which of your preferred courses take February students before you apply.
Where is the student visa filed for these countries?
Latvia, Finland and Malta take student permit applications at VFS Colombo, and the Netherlands at the Dutch embassy in Colombo once your university has applied to the IND. For Hungary and Greece the application is filed in New Delhi.
When should I apply for a February start?
As early as you can. Places on February courses are limited, visa appointments take time, and every university sets its own deadline. Ask us for the current deadline for your course.
Can I work while I study?
Yes. Latvia allows 20 hours a week for undergraduates and 40 for postgraduates, Finland 30, Hungary 24, Malta and Greece 20, and the Netherlands 16 (full-time from June to August, with a work permit your employer applies for).
Does a February start lead to the same degree?
Yes. You follow the same programme and graduate with the same diploma as students who started in September.
