Lithuania student visa from Sri Lanka

Studying in Lithuania is well within reach from Sri Lanka. Degree students apply for a temporary residence permit online, then give their fingerprints at VFS Global in Singapore, because Lithuania no longer accepts applications in Sri Lanka.

01 — The short answer

Where Sri Lankan students apply

Full-time students do not get a type D visa for Lithuania. You apply online for a temporary residence permit (TRP) for studies, then hand in your papers and fingerprints at the VFS Global centre in Singapore, which serves students of any nationality.

Lithuania’s Migration Department announced that from 1 March 2024 it would stop taking residence-permit and national-visa applications in Sri Lanka. Its page for the VFS Global centre in Singapore lists “student” among the groups it serves regardless of nationality, so this is where Sri Lankan students hand in their application.

02 — How it works

The route in brief

Once your Lithuanian university accepts you, your residence-permit application goes in online through the Migration Department’s MIGRIS system. After that you book a VFS appointment to hand in your papers and fingerprints, and the permit card is ready for you once the decision is made.

The papers cover your identity, your study place, your education (usually your G.C.E. A/L and O/L results, or your degree for a master’s), your finances and your health insurance. Which papers you need, and how each must be prepared, depends on your course and your sponsor — and because the appointment is outside Sri Lanka, timing matters.
